Our Team

Karen Hoodless
Operations Manager
M.Eng., CCPE, CPE

Karen has been working in the field of ergonomics since graduating from the University of Waterloo in 1989. She joined Taylor’d Ergonomics in 1996, bringing experience in ergonomics and training and development. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Co-op) and professional ergonomics certification in Canada and the USA. She also holds a Master of Engineering degree.

Karen has recently assumed the role of Operations Manager at Taylor'd Ergonomics. In this capacity, she oversees our ergonomists, and ensures that new ergonomists receive the training that they need to fulfill their role on our team.

The following project are a sampling of Karen’s projects:
On-site ergonomist for  an automotive parts plant. Karen maintains a PDD database, and conducts ergonomics assessments, return-to-work, and design review initiatives. She has also facilitated training for the return-to-work committee, and has overseen many ergonomics students. She provides regular progress reports, and coordinates awareness initiatives in all plants.
Ergo Design Guideline Development. Karen was involved in the initial development and piloting of Taylor’d Ergonomics’ ergonomics design guideline for engineers at a food processing plant.
Customisation involved the development of case studies from the client site to allow participants to practice applying each of nine selected design guidelines
Physical Demands Description database development. Karen worked closely with an Information Technologist to develop and document a database for data entry and storage of PDDs. This database has been used numerous times with other clients, allowing them to search for a job to meet specific work restrictions.
Ergonomics student supervision. Karen has trained and overseen ergonomics co-op students for various projects. This involves weekly feedback, responsibility for report quality control, and guidance for challenging projects.
At Taylor’d Ergo, Karen has also been instrumental in marketing and human resource initiatives.

Karen has strong analytical skills, gained during return-to-work projects and work refusal interventions. Working with design teams is one of Karen’s special interests, and she has successfully brought several of our clients to the proactive “design for ergonomics” phase of their programs. She works with our clients’ engineers to implement ergonomic improvement before designs are commissioned.
